Unlocking the Future: ISBR College Hosts Seminar on AI/ML Basics

On Thursday, July 4, 2024, ISBR College organised an insightful seminar on “AI/ML basics – A concise Introduction to AI/ML” at the ELCIA Complex. The program was designed to provide participants with a foundational understanding of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, focusing on their applications, ethical considerations, and the skills required to navigate an AI-driven future.

Bridging the Gap Between Humans and AI

The seminar’s primary objectives were to:

  • Understand how AI/ML can solve problems, complete tasks, shape companies, and create synergy between humans and AI.
  • Delve into AI/ML terminologies and their legal and ethical considerations.
  • Gain a clear understanding of various machine learning tasks.

Expert Insights from Mr. Ramesh Kestur

The session was led by Mr. Ramesh Kestur, Adjunct Professor, IIITB, who provided a comprehensive overview of AI/ML. He elaborated on the core components of AI/ML, including learning, reasoning, solving perception, and language. Mr. Kestur also discussed various types of learning associated with AI, such as unsupervised learning, supervised learning, and reinforcement learning.

A key highlight of the seminar was the brief description of the Turing test, presented as a simple method for determining whether a machine can demonstrate human intelligence. Furthermore, he addressed machine learning as a subset of AI that enables machines to learn and adapt responses to new data, emphasizing goal setting and metrics for AI/ML solutions.

Outcomes and Future Impact

The seminar proved highly beneficial, successfully raising awareness about AI and its potential to stimulate human intelligence. It highlighted how AI can boost efficiency and productivity by reducing the time and resources required for tasks, and how it can effectively analyze data to improve learning outcomes.

The overall consensus was that Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning have become integral to our lives. They enhance everyday technology, transform industries, drive innovation, solve complex problems, and empower personalization. The session underscored the pervasive and transformative nature of AI/ML in today’s world.
