ISBR’s Initiative for a Plastic-Free Electronics City

Tackling Plastic Pollution: ISBR’s Climate Action Drive

World Environment Day 2025 brings with it an urgent call to action—one that resonates deeply across geographies, industries, and communities. This year’s global theme focuses on eliminating plastic pollution, a menace that has now infiltrated even the most intimate spaces—our ecosystems, food chains, and even human bodies in the form of microplastics.

Recognizing the gravity of this environmental crisis, ISBR Cares has launched a robust, community-driven campaign aligned with the United Nations’ Resolution on Plastic Pollution. With just two months remaining until world leaders reconvene to negotiate a global treaty to end plastic pollution, the moment demands meaningful local initiatives that contribute to global impact.

A Collaborative Climate Mission

In a powerful show of multi-stakeholder engagement, ISBR Cares, in partnership with Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), ELCIA, ELCITA, and BBC, rolled out a war-footing campaign aimed at reducing single-use plastics (SUP) across Bangalore’s Electronics City.

The campaign is anchored in two major interventions:

  1. Hospitality Industry Advocacy
Leading star hotels in the region were approached and encouraged to eliminate the use of single-use plastic (SUP) water bottles, replacing them with sustainable alternatives. This industry-wide nudge is a significant step in fostering corporate environmental responsibility. To reinforce this initiative, creative posters under the campaign #SayNoToPlastic were strategically designed and placed near water filters in hotel premises. These posters carried the message: “Our Water is Safe to Drink”—a subtle yet powerful statement meant to dissuade guests from requesting bottled water. This not only reduces plastic waste but also serves to strengthen trust in the hotel’s overall hygiene and food quality, reinforcing a consistent sustainability message across guest touchpoints.
  2. Street-Level Sustainability
On the bustling Neeladri Road, ISBR volunteers engaged with street vendors and local shoppers, distributing free cloth bags to actively discourage the use of plastic carry bags. This initiative was made possible through the generous support of the Bio Innovation Centre, a key partner in driving grassroots climate action under their Climate Change and Sustainability mission.

ISBR’s Plastic-Free Campus Initiative

This campaign is not a standalone effort. ISBR Business School has already been practicing what it preaches. For over a year now, the campus has been completely plastic-free—no single-use plastic water bottles, no paper cups. This shift is part of a larger institutional commitment toward building a sustainable, zero-waste academic ecosystem.

Leading Systemic Change Through Local Action

The essence of World Environment Day 2025 lies in systemic change, and ISBR’s efforts exemplify this vision. By:

  • Empowering local vendors
  • Collaborating with civic bodies and private enterprises
  • Driving policy shifts within hospitality and education sectors

ISBR Cares has set a benchmark for transformative climate leadership.

As we approach the critical international negotiations on plastic pollution, it is these scalable, replicable models of community-based sustainability that will fuel global momentum.
