Shaping the Future of Logistics: ISBR’s Masterclass on Supply Chain Management

On Monday, October 21, 2024, at 2:30 PM, ISBR College hosted an enlightening online Masterclass Series on “Logistics and Supply Chain Management”. Organized by the Department of Commerce in collaboration with ISDC, this seminar brought together students and faculty to delve into the intricacies and future of supply chain operations.

About the Masterclass

The session was expertly led by Mr. Edward Sweeney, Professor of Logistics & Supply Chain Management at Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, Scotland. The primary aim of the seminar was to provide a step-by-step guideline on how Supply Chain Management works, outlining the strategic challenges faced globally, and offering potential solutions.

Supply chain management encompasses all activities that transform raw materials into finished goods and deliver them to customers’ hands, including sourcing, design, production, warehousing, shipping, and distribution. The overarching goal is to enhance efficiency, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

Key Insights from Professor Edward Sweeney

Professor Sweeney’s presentation began with an introduction to the fundamentals of supply chain management, gradually progressing to the complex challenges faced in today’s global landscape. A significant portion of his talk focused on the future of supply chain management.

He emphasised that the supply chain of the future will heavily leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other digital technologies to automate execution. This not only connects decision-making across the entire value chain but also provides employees with greater flexibility in work design. Professor Sweeney also stressed the crucial role of education and research in driving innovation within supply chain management.
