ICTROMI 2025: A Premier Global Health Conference
The 5th International Conference on Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases (ICTROMI 2025) was organized by the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, and hosted at the Santika Premiere Dyandra Convention.
Conducted from 4th –7th December 2025, the conference featured pre-conference workshops (4–5 December) followed by the main scientific sessions (6–7 December). The central theme, “Sepsis, Pneumonia, and Beyond: Integrated Approaches to Infectious Disease Management Across the Lifespan,” reflected the growing emphasis on holistic, evidence-based healthcare systems.
Advancing Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease Research
ICTROMI 2025 served as a distinguished platform for academicians, clinicians, researchers, and public-health professionals to exchange knowledge on:
- Tropical and neglected infectious diseases
- Emerging and re-emerging global health threats
- Translational research and clinical innovation
- Public-health preparedness and disease surveillance
Through symposia, oral and poster sessions, panel discussions, and workshops, the conference reinforced the importance of interdisciplinary infectious disease research.
Climate Change and Emerging Infectious Diseases
An oral presentation titled “Emerging Infectious Diseases due to Climate Change” explored how rising global temperatures, altered precipitation patterns, extreme weather events, and ecosystem disruptions are accelerating the emergence and re-emergence of infectious diseases.
The presentation highlighted the urgent need to integrate climate intelligence into disease surveillance systems, early-warning mechanisms, and adaptive public-health interventions. Interaction with an international audience enabled constructive dialogue, expert feedback, and the exploration of future global health research collaborations.
Turbo Talk: Co-Epidemics of Diabetes and Tuberculosis
The turbo talk “Co-epidemics of Diabetes and Tuberculosis: A Growing Public Health Challenge” addressed the critical intersection of non-communicable diseases and infectious diseases.
The session demonstrated how diabetes increases tuberculosis-related morbidity and mortality, while infectious diseases complicate chronic disease management. Emphasis was placed on integrated healthcare delivery, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and policy-level interventions to manage co-epidemics effectively—aligning strongly with ICTROMI 2025’s vision for holistic public-health solutions.
ICTROMI 2025: Matters for Global Health
ICTROMI 2025 proved to be academically and professionally transformative, strengthening perspectives on:
- Integrated infectious disease management
- Climate-responsive health systems
- Translational research and policy alignment
- Technology-enabled public-health strategies
The conference reinforced the necessity of interdisciplinary approaches combining research, technology, and public-health practice to address complex and evolving global health challenges. The insights from ICTROMI 2025 infectious disease conference will directly inform future research initiatives, policy contributions, and public-health practice. As infectious diseases continue to intersect with climate change and chronic conditions, platforms like ICTROMI remain essential for shaping resilient, evidence-driven global health systems.
