The students of the PGDM in Healthcare Management visited the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences hospital located at Whitefield, Bangalore, to explore the HMIS and EMR systems of the hospital.
The 333-bed Tertiary Care Super Specialty Hospital was established by Sri Sathya Sai Baba in 2001. The hospital is run by the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh. It provides state-of-the-art, high-quality care absolutely free of charge. This hospital offers medical and surgical services under Cardiology and Neurology. Other speciality care available in the hospital are General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Urology, Dentistry, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery and Psychiatry. The hospital building is shaped in the form of the letter K, which represents the arms of a person who welcomes with a warm heart or the letter of the state as it is located in “Karnataka.” The motto of the hospital is \u201cServe all, Love all.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our hospital visit was guided by Mr Subramanian M, Senior Manager, SSSIHMS, and Mr. Narayana Hegde, Resource Person, ISBR Business School. During the hospital tour, we visited outpatient department, wards, Radiology department, laboratory Department, Blood Bank, Pharmacy Department and IT Department. During our department visits and interaction with the staff, we learnt about the scope of
Health IT in hospital operations like OPD process, in-patient activities, inventory management, RIS and LIS, management control and decision making. We observed that all medical records and hospital management information are available electronically. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
